BORNE: To those born later
Presented by
The AAIS Studio of the Architectural Association School of Architecture
March 18, 2024
18 - 22March 2024
We the current generation have borne the burden of the socio-cultural and political behaviour of a generation that precedes us. We have inherited these discussions. Our privileges do not belong to us. Their burden of responsibility; however, does.
We albeit share this privilege with you.
We’re all fundamentally human. we all pick our noses, we all practise speeches or debates in our respective showers, we all eat, sleep and fart.
We bring to you a series of performative events that reiterate that we are all real, vulgar, animate, raw, and utterly beautiful.
All of us today stand together nonchalantly gazing upon the world’s afflictions, fortunate enough to feel for the ‘other’, within our own respective safe havens; simply gasping and guffawing.
We cannot explicitly change the present, but what we can do is implicitly impact our own future.
The Architectural Association Interprofessional Studio (AAIS) brings together an ensemble of artists who champion the fact that positive impact in the world can only be brought about by creating proactive work nets of intellectual and social capitals.
Consider this our invitation, to come and witness us take matters into our own hands.
It is time that we craft our own questions. Use this inherited privilege that you bestowed unto us, as a site to house discussions, intervene and build an ethical future for our own selves and the generations that follow.
We the AAIS cohort of 23-24 invite you to witness OUR questions, as we position art to discover what empathy is, and what it can be for US, and for those born later. We urge you to recognise that yesterday’s understanding of compassion and privilege needs to be acknowledged and regarded, however not hung onto.
The world can only be changed by those who are willing.
